I've checked dictionary.com and OED, but I can't find any reference to the first definition. OED does have the word landsman which is defined as "One who lives or has his business on land: opposed to seaman", but no indication that "landlubber" can be used as a neutral term for an individual that is involved in non-nautical activities.

Hello Peter! Though, my "Webster's IIIrd New International Dictionary" (p. 1269)gives exactly the same def. : "landsman - or unable seaman". Indeed it gets a somewhat deprecatory meaning from the word lummer : big fat, inefficient man. In french , we call such a useless man aboard a yacht an elephant...Ciao Arapaima 07:33, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
