Wikipedia

Old French almanach < Medieval Latin almanachus < Hispano-Arabic almanak (almanac, calendar) > or < Arabic المناخ (al-manāx, climate), possibly from Late Greek αλμενιχιακά (calendar), probably ultimately of Coptic origin. Possibly the central syllable -man- is cognate with moon and month, or else was influenced by Proto-Indo-European *me(n)ses- (moon, month) < PIE base *me- (to measure).

almanac (plural almanacs)

  1. A book or table listing astronomical, nautical or other events for the year; sometimes, but not essentially, containing historical and statistical information.
